KB0041 - About Templates

Purpose

The purpose of this article is to provide a timeline around the Template functionality of PowerShell Universal.

Background

Templates were introduced to provide a starting point for newcomers to PowerShell Universal. They have since been incorporated into (or migrated to) the Modules feature of PowerShell Universal.

Timeline

1. Version 2.1.0      Templates Introduced
2. Version 2.5.0      Modules Introduced
3. Version 4.0.0      Templates converted to Modules. Templates feature removed from the UI.

Note: Templates are still available in their original form within the Long-Term stable branch of PowerShell Universal 3.x. Customers are encouraged to upgrade to version 4.x

Conclusion

All of the templates that were previously available in 2.x and 3.x of PowerShell Universal are now available via the Modules feature. Please see the Further Reading section below for links and also see the example video demonstrating how to install one of the modules formerly known as a template.
